Jimmy Kimmel is known to millions as the longtime host of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but away from late-night television he has another role that has shaped much of his adult life: being a father. Kimmel has four children from his two marriages, and there is a considerable age difference between his older and younger kids.

His eldest children, Katie and Kevin, were born during his marriage to Gina Maddy, long before Kimmel reached the level of television fame he has today. Years later, after marrying Molly McNearney in 2013, he became a father again with daughter Jane and son Billy. In May 2025, another generation was added to the family when Katie welcomed a daughter, making Kimmel a grandfather for the first time.

Jane Kimmel Is His Younger Daughter

More than two decades after becoming a father for the first time, Jimmy welcomed another daughter.

Jane Kimmel was born on July 10, 2014, in Los Angeles. She is Jimmy’s first child with Molly McNearney. Kimmel has said Jane was named after his grandmother, although he characteristically turned the announcement into a joke when discussing her birth on television.

Becoming a father again in his 40s gave Kimmel a very different parenting experience. By then, his professional life was considerably more stable, and he frequently spoke about how much happiness Jane brought into his everyday routine.

Billy Kimmel’s Heart Condition and Surgeries

William John “Billy” Kimmel, Jimmy and Molly’s son, was born on April 21, 2017, in Los Angeles.

Shortly after Billy was born, doctors discovered that he had tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, a serious congenital heart condition. He underwent his first open-heart surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles when he was only three days old.

Billy subsequently required additional procedures. His second open-heart surgery took place when he was seven months old. In May 2024, at age seven, he underwent a third open-heart operation.

After that procedure, Kimmel shared that Billy had received a new valve and described him as a happy and healthy child. The family has repeatedly expressed gratitude toward the physicians, nurses and other medical professionals who have cared for him.

By April 2026, Billy had turned nine. Kimmel said at the time that his son was doing well and again publicly thanked the medical teams at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and Cedars-Sinai.

Billy’s medical journey has understandably been deeply personal for the family. At the same time, Kimmel’s decision to discuss it publicly brought wider attention to congenital heart disease and pediatric medical care.

The Kimmel family entered a new chapter when Katie gave birth to Patti Joan in May 2025.
